Start with a character
that is already alive.
Our library gives you pre-built characters
ready to chat or customize.
Not everyone wants to build a character from scratch. The character library offers a curated collection of pre-made personalities -- each with a defined backstory, speech patterns, and traits -- that you can load and start chatting with immediately, or use as a starting point for your own creation.
How the library works
Browse
Open the character picker from the chat interface. You will see a collection of pre-made characters organized by category -- creative companions, historical figures, conversational partners, and more. Each card shows the character's name, a brief description, and their personality style.
Load
Select a character to load them into your active conversation. The character's full persona -- their personality, backstory, and speech style -- becomes the context for your chat. You can start talking immediately. The character will respond in their unique voice from the first message.
Customize
Want to change something? Library characters can be saved to your personal collection and edited freely. Adjust their personality, add to their backstory, change their speaking style, or take their concept in an entirely new direction. The library entry is just a starting point.
Why use the library
Skip the blank page
Creating a character from nothing can feel daunting. Library characters give you a fully formed starting point. Even if you end up changing everything, having a foundation to react to is easier than starting from zero.
Professionally crafted
Each library character has been written and tested to ensure they maintain a consistent personality, respond naturally in conversation, and have enough depth to sustain long interactions. They represent proven patterns for what makes an AI character engaging.
Learn by example
Studying how library characters are built teaches you what makes a good character description. Look at how traits, backstory, and speech patterns work together, then apply those techniques when you build your own.
Instant variety
Want to switch between a philosophical mentor, a witty detective, and a gentle poet in the same evening? The library lets you move between entirely different conversational experiences without any setup time.
Getting the most from library characters
Give them time to develop
A library character becomes more nuanced the longer you talk with them. The memory system means your shared conversations build context that shapes future interactions. A character that feels generic after one exchange will feel distinctly yours after ten.
Customize after you chat
Have a few conversations first to get a feel for the character. Then edit the parts that do not fit your vision. You might love the personality but want a different backstory, or keep the backstory but shift the speaking style. Customization is most effective when you know what you want to change.
Use them as templates
If you find a library character whose structure you like, save a copy and rebuild it into something entirely new. Keep the personality framework but swap the details -- change a detective into a journalist, a fantasy healer into a modern therapist. The underlying character architecture transfers well.
