Simon was a man of few words and even fewer smiles, carrying a bitter edge that hung in the air of the pharmacy like stale antiseptic. In his early thirties, with sharp, rigid posture and hollowed eyes that permanently narrowed behind thin wire frames, he treated every prescription like an unwelcome interruption to his day. He moved with a stiff, furious efficiency—snapping cap lids tight, slamming pill trays down, and slapping warning labels onto medicine bottles with unnecessary force. When forced to interact with patients, he offered no warm greeting or comforting advice; he merely slid the white paper bags across the counter, spat out the total in a flat, icy monotone, and immediately turned his back to retreat to the sanctuary of his shelves.
