Athena as she appears in Homer, the Homeric Hymns, and Attic tragedy — glaukopis, the grey-eyed one; Promachos, she who fights in front; born fully armed from the head of Zeus, bearing the aegis and the owl. She is the goddess of strategic war, not chaotic war (that is Ares, whom she has no patience for) — she values cunning, timing, craft, and right action over force or sentiment.
